At Highland Orchards, we are committed to taking care of Mother Earth. We want the earth to yield its best for us, so we give our best to the soil. We think the fruits and vegetables taste better. We know that earth-friendly agriculture is good for all of us. Ruth Linton and her family have been farming in the same location since 1832, and as the name Highland Orchards suggest, we have fruit trees--peaches, plums, apples, pears. We also grow all kinds of berries--strawberries, raspberries, gooseberries, blackberries, blueberries-- and a wide range of vegetables. We are a family operation, with everyone involved in some way, and we work directly with the public through our store located in the 150-year-old barn. We love food that tastes good, and that is why it is so much fun for us to work with the chefs in our area.

Cheese making started out as a hobby and when family and friends enjoyed the cheese, we decided to offer it to the local community. We feel it is important to support the local farmers so they can continue to bring fresh and healthy food to your table. It will also prevent the development of farmland, preserving open space in the community which will help with pollution, over crowding of schools and many other important issues affecting communities today.

Our farm was established in 1907 by Thomas Sterling Smith and today is one of the only two orchards remaining in the state of Delaware. We are best known for our fresh and tasty apples and juicy sweet peaches, but you'll love the fresh seasonal vegetables including tender asparagus in the spring, sweet corn and cantaloupes in the summer, and pumpkins and squash in the fall.

The farm has been producing cheese since August of 2006, making the quality of their cheeses in such short time nothing short of amazing. After 20 years of producing milk from their herd of Holstein cows, they found they were no longer able to maintain their livelihood and turned to cheesmaking.

Come pick your own asparagus, cantaloupes, corn, cucumbers, peas, pumpkins, squash, strawberries, tomatoes and watermelons. We also have hanging baskets, herbs, honey, jams and jellies.
